Grow pods are latest in pot technology

OAKLAND — Even the novice medical cannabis grower can sprout perfect pot if those at iGrow selling the "big bud boxes" have it right. These new stainless steel containers will be on display at the new cannabis growing superstore in Oakland during a "Cannaland" party Monday.

"Basically, a person can roll the box into a garage or basement or backyard, hook up the water and electricity, and begin growing cannabis plants. They are entirely self-contained," said Dhar Mann, the 25-year-old owner of iGrow. "Each one comes with surveillance systems so you can remotely monitor your grow operation. It also creates less of a nuisance for neighbors, and they require little or no home modification."

There's a new store in East Oakland that's sure to draw a huge cloud of controversy.

The building just down the way from the Oakland Airport is the newest place to pick up gear for growing medical marijuana. But iGrow isn't just a cramped, out of the way space.

The 15,000-square foot warehouse is a one-stop shop for everything cannabis cultivation -- from lights and fans to fertilizer and additives. An on-site doctor will issue recommendations and technicians will be on-hand to teach prospective growers how to get their roots into the business.

Your very own marijuana growing operation is just a purchase away

Ever since voters passed Prop. 215 in 1996, the use of marijuana for medical purposes has been technically legal here in California.

There are cannabis clubs up and down the state where sick people with a prescription can purchase pot as medicine.

Now there is even a new marijuana mega store in Oakland called iGrow that is being called a Wal-Mart for weed. The 15,000-square-foot warehouse is a one-stop shop for everything connected to cannabis cultivation but the seeds. An on-site doctor issues recommendations and technicians provide hands on lessons to prospective growers.
